MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A cold front is pushing through the area this morning
and we're starting to clear out, says WMBF News Meteorologist Jessica Ryan.

A stray shower is
possible through the afternoon, but most of us stay dry. The winds will also
pick up today out of the northwest at about 10-20mph with higher gusts. Highs
this afternoon will be in the upper 70s inland, low 80s at the coast.

Giant inflatable slide brings fun and funds to North Myrtle Beach

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – This year, North Myrtle Beach is bringing "TRIPPO," a first-of-its-kind three-chute inflatable slide to the beachfront, with proceeds going to help fund beach safety this season.

"We purchased it about a month ago and today is the first day
of operation," said Director of Parks and Recreation John Bullard.  

Fox exposes Horry Co. man to rabies

Post-exposure treatments are being administered to an Horry County man after he was bitten by a fox that tested positive for rabies, the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control reported.

Safety preparations underway for busy Memorial Day Weekend

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Thousands of people are expected to pack Grand Strand beaches this Memorial Day weekend, which kicks off the busiest time of the year for emergency crews like lifeguards in North Myrtle Beach, and doctors in the emergency room.

"We have some lifeguards working and we're trying to get as many ready for the weekend as possible," said Monty Reed, Lifeguard Coordinator for North Myrtle Beach.  "We have 55 lifeguard stands on about 9 miles of beach here and we are hoping to have them all staffed for the weekend."

Neighbors react with grief to Little River shooting

LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) – A North Myrtle Beach man is in jail after he allegedly shot and killed a woman, then called 911 and waited for law enforcement to arrive, police officials state.

At about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, officers with the Horry County Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a home on Lincoln Heights Road in Little River.

Officers found a woman with a gunshot wound to the chest; she was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Criminals may lurk around beach access points

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Police want the public to take precautions when frequenting the beach this summer.

With car burglaries happening the most at beach access parking lots, they say criminals are looking for opportunities. Police say make sure you lock your doors and don't leave valuables left on car seats.
